What is Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a technique derived from ancient Chinese medicine, and as such, follows it’s principles and philosophy.

According to Chinese Medicine theory, our "vital energy" or Qi circulates around the body through a system of channels called meridians. Qi can be stimulated through over 500 acupuncture points located on the surface of the body affecting specific areas of the entire body: from skin, to muscles to deeper organ structures. The stimulation of Qi in the meridians allows the body to correct the imbalances from the negative impacts of daily life and disease.

The process of Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into various points of the body situated along the meridian lines. When we experience free flowing Qi there is health, however, when the flow of Qi becomes obstructed, there is discomfort, pain and illness. Acupuncture stimulate the energy points to eliminate any blockages and restore a smooth flow of Qi throughout body, thereby enabling the body to achieve balance and regain health.

According to Western medicine theory, Acupuncture is a very effective treatment to relive pain by balancing the nervous system through the stimulation of sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles. This results in the production of natural pain-relieving endorphins.

I believe that acupuncture should treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. This is my ethos for every treatment I undertake.

An old Chinese saying explains: “Pain, no free flow. Free flow, no pain”.
