QIGONG

I am a practitioner of Chinese medicine and offer Qigong therapy from my clinics in West Hampstead and Walthamstow in London.

What is Qigong?

Qigong, which is sometimes spelled Chi-Kung, is a centuries-old system of cultivating vital life-force through the practice of various techniques, including body posture and movement, breathing, meditation and visualisations.

Qi means "breath" or "life-force energy." In Chinese medicine, Qi is a vital life-force which is central to everything in the universe.

Gong means “work” or “effort”. This is the commitment an individual puts into a practice or skill which needs time, patience and repetition.

For centuries, Qigong has been used for health, spirituality and martial arts training. Using these practices, I am able to promote self-healing, disease prevention and improvement of health.

The types of Qigong

Over the centuries in which it has been developed, Qigong has taken on many forms and has comprised many practices. However, all of these fit into three categories:

  • Medical Qigong - the use of Qigong for healing yourself and others

  • Martial Qigong - the use of Qigong in the martial arts and for physical endurance

  • Spiritual Qigong - the use of Qigong for enlightenment

As part of my Qigong treatments, I utilise exercises and techniques from all three of the categories. However, as a health practitioner, my main focus is on medical Qigong.

Medical Qigong

Medical Qigong is the oldest of the four branches of traditional Chinese medicine. It is from Medical Qigong which acupuncture, herbal medicine, and Chinese massage (tui na) all originate.

Due to this, Qigong is rooted with the same theories as traditional Chinese medicine and utilise similar treatments and methods of diagnosis.

Medical Qigong itself, is split into two different forms. These are Self-Healing Qigong and External Qigong/Qi Emission.

Self-Healing Qigong

Self-Healing Qigong is the form of Qigong which is used by individuals themselves to enhance their own health, address illness and prevent disease.

External Qigong/Qi Emission

External Qigong or Qi Emission is the form of Qigong in which Qigong practitioners, like myself, emit Qi in order to heal others.

My Qigong therapies

I have been practicing Qigong for more than 20 years. As part of my integrative treatments, I am able to prescribe specific self-healing Qigong exercises to patients. These are designed to correct any imbalances and facilitate the free flow of Qi.

My patients are able to incorporate Qigong exercises into their daily practice in order to preserve health and prevent disease.
